Finland’s Five Corners Quintet are back with more verve than anyone has a right to expect, building on the huge success of their lp from a few years back, ‘Chasin’ The Jazz Of Days Gone By’. ‘Hot Rod’ builds on shuffling rockabilly inspired rhythms with some coolly styled modal sounds building throughout; ‘Shake It’ is a manic percussion and horns fuelled stormer that could easily appeal to the funk crowds; finally, ‘Easy Diggin” is a mellow, lithe closer that remains upbeat but with a distinct old-school charm. Classy modern jazz sounds.
