It’s been far too long since we’ve had the opportunity to listen to and also wax lyrical about Nottingham’s excellent Shiva label. The hiatus is over with the debut by New Zealand’s funkiest sons Kora and ‘Flow’ – actually a number one in their homeland (although I’m not actually sure how many sales that actually translates to). It’s rugged, raw and funky in the extreme with the ‘keep the mojo flowing’ hook underscored with ’70s funk of the Maceo & the Macks kind with a little Fatback thrown in for good measure too. Label mates Crazy P and amillionsons add to the mix package with the former showing why they’re top at their game. The album drops July 14th.
