LOST IDOL
FIRMLY ROOTED EP
COOKSHOP

Not sure whether it’s the sea air or something else, but record labels and producers in Brighton seem to have a knack for turning in memorable dancefloor funk of almost cinematic proportions.  “Firmly Rooted” first appeared on this label’s “Taster 1” EP a while back and is now presented in original and remixed form in readiness for the forth coming Lost Idol album.  Originally starting life as a relaxed late night spy-jazz number, Hint lend it a more pronounced dancefloor gait, flowing bass and guitar lines meshing perfectly with Quentin Collin’s dreamy trumpet performance.  Sophisticatedly gritty, yet retaining the dreamlike edge, it’s a sumptuous re-work.  Norway’s Implosion Quintet run in the opposite direction with a 21st century samba shuffle that – oddly – works really well, particularly when the freaky bass is unleashed in the latter quarter.  Top-notch EP.
