Makoto & Kez YM Ft. Takumi Kaneko
Chameleon
Mukatsuku

Yes, it’s the Herbie Hancock jazz standard, here given a new version that takes it somewhere between broken beat and disco, and already played by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Faze Action, etc.  There’s an absolute monster of an analog riff for the famous hook, and CroMagnon’s Takumi Kaneko lends a helping hand with some supremely jazzy vibes, giving it a distinctly spaced out disco feel with a nod towards the Mizell Brothers.  The original really is a killer of a track, however, to up the “must buy” factor, Guynamukat (Guynamite&Nik Weston) offer a re-souled version that piles on the boogie sounds and re-arrange the hooks a little (there’s also a superbly soulful vocal take with Shea Soul).  Late in the year it may be, but this is definitely a contender for top ten of 2009.
