Brand new EP from the always diverse and entertaining Pedro. “I Am Keeping
Up” seems to tell the tale of a drummer struggling to keep in time with a
school orchestra led by Sun Ra. Loud, cacophonous, fun, somehow all the
elements hang together to make one hell of a funky track. “Lung” is a
strident Eastern influenced psych-out, similar to current Voice Of The Seven
Woods material, albeit in a more aggressive manner. “Red Apples” heads off
into an electronic soundscape, before different musical styles bounce off
each other, making it difficult to pin to any one style, as does the closing
cut, “Vitamins”. Starting off in drifting electronics mood, it breaks
midway to a loud, frenzied 70’s rock and jazz fuzz-fest, which constantly
battles with the calmer moments for musical supremacy. Cleverly mixing
styles and patterns from older genres with current nouse, this stands way
above most releases around right now – recommended.
