Grid-Droyd sonic maestro Richard Norris has long been one of our leading psychedelic music experts, having already seen it flower in cahoots with Erol Alkan on the Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve project. He’s at it again with the Time And Space Machine except, rather than recreate the old 60s classics, is pouring the lysergic spirit into new strains of music which, ultimately, end up sounding like his own unique hybrid. The title track rides an early Kraftwerk-style motorik groove under ‘You Really Got Me’ riff mutation, bathed in flute and psych-sheen before the vocal mantra kicks in. ‘Mushroom Family’ takes the cosmic rock route with early 90s Primal Scream bongo flavours and chorale sunbeams. ‘More Cowbell’ is a juddering, bass-driven house vamp, adding to the unpredictable nature of this project. The album should be something of a spangled treat.
