Rather cleverly referred to as Pol iPOD by those ever-resourceful Ninja folks, as in, a play on the TV Pop Idol phenomenon. Why? Because Skalpel are Poland’s best known hip-hop DJs, and some of their material was made available via Ninja Tune’s website as part of a remix competition. The resulting entrants could have their submissions released. See what they did? This is the finished package, highlighting the winner’s contribution – Backini – along with efforts from Almalgamation of Soundz, J, and Dr Rubberfunk. They’re all rather good, of course. Re-fried polish jazz for iPODs across the land with varying electronic twists along the way. However, special mention must go to Dr Rubberfunk’s “Live @ No 10 A” remix, which creates that gritty urban nu-funk sound that’s quite popular nowadays.
