For his ‘Chapters’ album, King Roc has taken the previous EP releases, thrown them up in the air and reassembled them. The result is a cinematic affair that hangs together really well, moving between slow, blissed out tracks and faster, more urgent breaks numbers. Particularly skilful is the way the music speeds up between ‘Lunar People’ and ‘The Growing Phrase’, proof that a lot of thought and care has gone into the construction of the whole album. There are strong similarities to Hybrid in the quality of the orchestration and some of the tougher breakbeats, but ultimately King Roc have a style and sensibility all of their own. Excellent.
