James Lavelle can’t be accused of holding back on his return with Unkle, certainly not with the Cult singer Ian Astbury delivering such a powerful vocal track as he does here. Lavelle’s beats are snare heavy, driving and energetic, and Astbury’s vocals are magnificently moody, making the most of what seems to be a twisted love song. Percussion and guitar riffs surge forward with impressive power, though Lavelle still finds room for more delicate piano lines in the background. A hugely affirming return from Lavelle, one that bodes extremely well for forthcoming album ‘War Stories’.
