As well as being a pretty well known magazine, Wax Poetic is a New York trio that provided Norah Jones with some of her first outings as a vocalist. ‘Copenhagen’ finds them up to their old tricks with a new vocalist, and a willingness to explore more of a guitar sound – so that some of these tracks are less trippy than their old stuff used to be. So there is some electronic dressing but it’s pretty minimal – and songs like ‘NYC’ are thinly disguised love letters to their home city, though on the flip side ‘Beauty’ enjoys some dreamier thoughts. A bit more mainstream than their most effective stuff, but still well written.
