Simon Finnegan & Marcus Harric comprise Tone Control, and – while their previous productions have been well received in house music circles – this latest venture sees them pushing out into broken beat territory. “Take It To The Top” is a deceptively simple joint with heavy bass and stabbing keys, helped by a soulful vocal delivery from Lady J. “Lift” gets a lush, sprawling remix from Melbourne based outfit Lava Musique, turning out an extended keyboard jam over slowed broken beats. Pick of the tracks offered is the slowed right down groove of “Love Thing” which again finds Lady J on vocals. It’s reminiscent of the old Theo Parrish remix of “Slowly Surely”, thick with atmosphere and in no rush to get anywhere in a hurry.
