Belgian soul singer Liz Aku is a good fit for Sonar Kollektiv. She is a no-frills singer, one of those voices where no studio trickery is needed to get her thoughts and feelings directly to the listener’s ear. The intimacy of her vocals is best caught in songs like ‘Secrets Die’, where the frank lyrics are delivered over the sounds of a twinkling harp, or ‘Ankhor’ itself, which adds a bit of grit and sass with its guest vocals from Zulu Moon. The lush orchestration complements Aku’s voice beautifully but never gets in the way, ensuring hers is a soulful voice that fans of Erykah Badu will definitely enjoy.
