PAUL HARTNOLL FEAT. ROBERT SMITH
PLEASE
KIDS

After easing in with the glistening electro of ‘Patchwork Guilt’, the former Orbital man whips out the big guns for his second single and trailer for the imminent The Ideal Condition album. Getting in Robert Smith of the Cure to sing was a masterstroke. It’s one of those yearning happy-sad epics which starts life with Paul’s own electro-flavoured original before he pulls out an unexpected killer touch by lacing another mix with Orbital’s ‘Chime’.. This irrepressibly strong song is then turned over to a gamut of remixers, starting with The Whip, the project Robert started in the 80s with Steve Severin of Siouxsie & The Banshees. Maybe surprisingly, their pumping techno workout is the dancefloor killer in the pack with vocals distorted to sound like Bowie. The Boss Boss, Culprit 1, Statik and KGB versions all use the vocal in various electro-tinged settings, playing on the fact that The song itself is up there with those classically melodic Cure singles, Possibly the dance-rock crossover of the year and a great start for Paul.
