Reggaeton has been a buzz word for some months now, having been co-opted by US hip-hop artists keen to appeal to a Spanish base, and loved-up here in the UK by both the culture glossies and mainstream newspapers wanting to appear down with the kids, hyping and talking about it as the next big thing, before much had even happened. Positiva have contented themselves with getting on with the day-to-day business of signing what could be the first hit to actually establish reggaeton as a viable musical force. Puerto Rico’s Speedy teams up with Lumidee (‘Uh-Oh’) for a stupidly infectious combination of bump ‘n’ grind rhythms and Spanish lyrics. There’s a barrel full of remixes which try to distil this into a two minute pop blast, which they do to some extent, but really, it’s best heard in the unadulterated original mix, complete with rock-hard digital beats and headnod factor of +11.
