PURPLE DISCO MACHINE – SOULMATIC – SWEAT IT OUT

The debut long player for Tino Piontek’s Purple Disco Machine has been a long time coming, but its ridiculously good vibes confirm that the wait was well worth it. There is a nice mix of pastiche and post-Daft Punk vocoder action on tracks like ‘Music In You’, where Lorenz Rhode puts in an excellent vocal turn, while it’s great to hear Duane Harden in such good form on the smooth as silk ‘Devil In Me’, also featuring Joe Killington. ‘Soulmatic’ is in fact a bit of a star studded piece of work, with CeeLo Green and Kool Keith putting in a guest turn each, but if anything Ella, vocalist on the reserved but poignant ‘Falling Down’, makes a bigger impact. ‘Let The Music Play’, meanwhile, was produced by Faithless. The feelgood vibes on this will trump any bad news around at the moment (pun intended) – and whether you’re listening at home or in the club Purple Disco Machine will take care of your needs. Excellent stuff!
