DJs will already know the label name as the promotions company started in
the mid-90s by David Holmes and Chris Butler to push the underground
overground. A few years back Colin Hobbs took over and now hops over to the
other side of the fence to put himself at the mercy of the DJs he’s usually
hassling for feedback. Brave man but, as it happens, he has nothing to worry
about. Colin’s original is a riveting slice of hallucinogenic
minimal-flavoured tech-house, big on whispery atmosphere and boasting a
slightly 90s feel in the riff department. After building a wall of resonant
effects and melodies there’s a huge drop guaranteed to instill the sort of
mayhem his reaction sheets crave. He’s dragged in mates for the remixes,
Riva Starr cooking up a stripped-down, bendy twang-scape while hot property
Christian Hoff boosts both his track and reputation with a minimal workout
which runs into a meteor shower halfway. It gives me great pleasure to bash
the side of his boat with a bottle of cheap hooch stickered with five
dancing men!
