Francesco Farfa
Founding Magdalen
Audio Esperanto

Ten years after starting its amazingly-influential two year run, Francesco Farfa has reactivated his Audio Esperanto imprintŠand relaunched with something totally special. I’ve stuck it in techno but one of the main missions of the label was to remove barriers and let the music speak for itself to all crowds without restrictive boxes or tackle-restricting undergarments. For his maiden voyage Francesco himself thrusts forth a breathtaking epic built on a sample from a track called ‘Magdalen’ by early Genesis guitarist Anthony Phillips [must be ancient because he left the group in the early 70s and only had a short solo stab]. There’s five versions: the first two by F.F. revolve around the haunting theme which is built on with strings, harpsichord textures and delicate sonic embroidery, swelling gloriously into a thing of total beauty on the Second inspiration Mix. Alen Sforzina takes a more minimal approach with strings playing the melody before Joy Kitikonti takes it to new levels of poignancy. Finally, Italy’s Sandro C [discovered by Francesco on MySpace] turns in a flickering, shadowy excursion wrapping the elements in windswept ghostly gossamer. Lovely way to make a return.
