There was a lot of hype built around Roberto Surace’s ‘Joys’ as this years’ big summer anthem and although the track might appeal to a wider group of recipients, for many this tag would rather have fitted to ‘Heaven’ by The Vision-like Surace’s tune delivered via the always on spot Defected label. I agree with it and watching various videos from different party hotspots from Ibiza over Croatia to Italy the importance of ‘Heaven’ can’t be pointed out enough as it certainly is a track that has helped more funky, soulful House music to set an exclamation mark. A solid indicator of that supposition is the fact, that many DJs who are more or less known to spin more Tech House or even Techno are playing this track in their sets too-simply because it is in demand very much. The blinding Original Mix and Kon Edit have been released earlier, now the remixes hit the shelfs. Germany’s finest export serves up two mixes, his ‘E-Funk Mix’, being the more clubby, yet still ultra funky version.
On the flip side we find two mixes from Leeds native and former downbeat meastro Nightmares On Wax. Bringing his trademark funk-flavoured grooves into the mix, his remix of the track showing the producer’s innate musicality. Rounding off the release is the Nightmare On Wax Club Dub, stripping back the vocals to offer a transformed version of the original. If you loved the Original, this might just be the little extra cream on top of it, if you didn’t, the remix package itself is more than a reason for a purchase without compunction.
