For this new series Get Physical have opened the doors to South African producers, so rather than be an attempt to African-ise house music it is a genuine step to bring talent to house dancefloors across different continents. There is plenty to admire here, not least from Ryan Murgatroyd who mixes the compilation – his ‘Kanna’ is a lush piece of work with a lovely piano breakdown. Jazzuelle & Lazarusman’s collaboration ‘Forget Me’ has a strong riff to power it, while Thor Rixon’s ‘Theresa Toy’ offers compelling percussion to go with its deep, futuristic backdrop. It is encouraging to read this is volume 1 – so hopefully for future editions Get Physical will move around the continent and draw on even more inspiring sources. South Africa acquits itself extremely well here though!
