Joakim Molitor

DMCWORLD checks in with the superb Swedish producer ahead of his new release ‘Weightless’…

Hi Joakim! Where are we speaking to you from?

Hey! I am currently in my home town, Norrtälje, which is like an hour drive north of Stockholm.

What has your been summer like? What was your favourite show?

It’s been really good thanks! There was this country band that I saw when I was in Nashville this summer. I’m not that into country music but this was so spontaneous and really not what I expected. There soooo many good musicians coming out of Nashville!

Congratulations on the release of ‘Weightless’! Can you tell us a little bit about the writing process with Maia Wright?

On this single the process was a little bit different. The vocals was actually written in a writing camp in Stockholm in the studio next to were I had another session. Then they showed me the top line. I fell in love and started a track the same day. We had one more recording session for more vocals before the song was done. Other songwriters on ”Weightless” is Hjalmar Wilén and Ellen Berg.

Your last single ‘Always Gonna Say Sorry’ has hit 5 million plays on Spotify! How does that feel?

I’m totally overwhelmed about how much love we’ve got for that song. We had one session of writing this song and we really liked it but we could never imagine this many streams in such a short time.

What is coming up next for Joakim Molitor?

I will finish the songs I’m working on right now to start think about my next single. In October I’m also going to Amsterdam Dance Event for some writing sessions. It’s gonna be fun!

What has been your biggest moment of your musical career to date?

I think it is small steps all the time that makes it. The latest thing was when i got 1 million plays on Spotify for ”Always gonna say sorry”. And now it got 5 millions. It is really sick!

Where would your dream show be?

Probably one of the main festivals, but besides that a big show in Sweden would be something special!

Can you give us your top 5 tracks of all time?

That is a really hard question. I have many favorites. On the top of my mind i would say: Israel Kamakawiwoʻole – ‘Over the Rainbow’, Phil Collins – ‘In the Air Tonight’, Michael Jackson – ‘Beat It’,  Justin Bieber – ‘Sorry’ and Grey – ‘I Miss You’ for the production.

What is your dance floor weapon to really get the crowd moving?

If we are talking about clubs and right now I would say ‘HELIX’ by Sick Individuals.

Any words for your fans in the UK? Any plans to come play here?

I don’t have any scheduled shows or trips to the UK at the moment but I would love to. I hope you guys like what I do! Much love!
