Debut release from Teenage Fanclub’s Gerard Love and his new outfit. A nostalgic spangling sunshine strummer on a warm breeze. The LP Electric Cables is due in April.

Joe Corrales Jr took up surfing whilst writing this L.P., then midway through recording he decided to move to Long Beach, California, where his energizing and uplifting experiences have made a massive impact on the sound & feel of Eighty One. You can almost dip your toe in the sun reflecting warm waters.

 

5 (NEW) SWEET LIGHTS – SWEET LIGHTS – HIGHLINE

A beautiful bittersweet debut L.P. from Philadelphia’s Shai Halperin, not your average singer songwriter by a long shot, this is definitely a bit special.

 

6 (13) CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG – ANNA / REMIXES – BECAUSE MUSIC

A gorgeous song from the much lauded LP Stage Whisper gets a nip & tuck. Tom Furse of The Horrors fame builds a haunting swirling in the mist masterpiece. Clock Opera deliver a cute pop nugget and Micky Moonlight Matters goes down the 80’s disco route.

 

7 (15) ETIENNE DE CRECY – AM I WRONG 2012 – PIXADELIC

The French maestro is set to release a 1992 – 2012 anthology box set titled My Contribution To Global Warming, hence this single. The Shoes come up trumps with their Slo-Mo Remix, a brooding bass heavy dubtastic knee trembler with lashings of atmospherics. SCNTST, Felix Cartal and Shinichi Osawa also get involved.

 

8 (3) SUPER BEST FRIENDS CLUB – YES YOU ARE / EVOLUTION – HAKISAC

An intricate and carefully orchestrated ramshackle debut full of loveliness, from this ecstatic London sextet. Just go with it.

 

9 (11) ANDY LEWIS & WESLEY DOYLE – THE BEST OF DAYS / BARNEY’S THEME – ACID JAZZ

Go straight for Barney’s Theme on the flip, a bubble gum dancer that’s a bit Young Holt Trio meets The Archies, bringing 70’s right on cartoons to mind.

 

10 (16) CHRIS COCO – HOLIDAY REMIXES – MELODICA

The song that launched Melodica has been re-worked and is set to blow up over the summer. Sare Havlick delivers a couple of disco and Italo beauties. While the man with the plan Chris Coco flexes his opium den deep house credentials, and Deekie wind it up with their own holistic retreat answer version. Lovely stuff.

 

11 (14) VELOCIRAPTOR – IN THE SPRINGTIME – TOO PURE SINGLES CLUB

Australian 12 piece cooking up some exciting snarling dirty basement garage rock with a pop twist. Makes you want to check out one of their gigs.

 

12 (8) TOMAT – 01-06 JUNE – MONOTREME

Debut LP of out there sonic landscapes made up from 1 synth, 1 guitar and layers & layers of voices, creating an ethereal, almost biblical experience of miracle proportions. Amazing!

 

13 (10) STEPHEN MALKMUS & THE JICKS – STICK FIGURES IN LOVE – DOMINO

Another feel good summer strummer produced by Beck and lifted from the critically acclaimed LP Mirror Traffic.

Originally released in the mid 60’s, then much sought after in the 80’s. Another fitting gem in the Rare Mod EP series.

Big room Euro disco that has got 70’s holiday hit goes Balearic written all over it.

Baltimore trio with an L.P. of rousing melodies, dreamy memories and spangly guitars with just the right amount of fuzz. The soundtrack to lost days on Super 8.

Scott Fraser’s Basement Riposte Dub wins the day with a nice lift and solid groove, meanwhile Be Loved gets a mind expanding dose care of Richard Fearless.

Three fat cuts of looping & filtering disco house New York style.

Head straight for The North on the flip, a stomping slab of 60’s influenced quality pop that’s pretty much guaranteed to put a spring in your step.

Nice slab of bumping techno from Canada via Paris with a bit of a Danny Tenaglia meets Chicago’s Relief vibe.

Sheldon Thompson marks MFR’s 50th release with a deep warm hypnotic number that contains a distant but up close and personal vocal, which is slightly disturbing and very effective.

 

23 (29) TRAILER TRASH TRACEYS – LOS ANGERED – DOUBLE SIX

London quartet oozing a warm and druggy sound. Comes backed with the spangled dreamer You Wish You Were Red.

 

24 (27) TIM NICE – FLY BY – TALL HOUSE UNDERGROUND

Locked in heads down groover with an early 90’s Balearic network feel.

 

25 (25) CLAP RULES – GOLDEN REMIXES – BEARFUNK

Four cuts from last year’s Golden Hands LP get a rebirth. Emperor Machine peaks with Silver Mountains, a cosmic disco builder with futurist flashes and off kilter vocals. In Flagranti twists Oh Uibe, dropping a great sample into the breakdown, and Mock & Toof get deep down & dirty with Fantasmi.

Lead track Mello is a deep percussive builder with lush pads & hooky repetitive synth riffs. Show It shifts up a gear sporting B-Boy swagger and an infectious acid line, and Perpetual Motion is perfect for that still at it sunrise buzz.

Two cuts of bass heavy dub infused skank attack out of Belgium, and a nice skippy number that utilises the lyrics of Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On.
