Miami 2012 – MYNC

Releasing THE double player of Miami week

MYNC

2011 was definitely another stellar year for MYNC, their collaboration track with Space Ibiza resident Wally Lopez ‘Esa Boca Linda’ was a summer revelation reaching a coveted Top 10 spot on Beatport and #1 on the Tech House Chart. Together with the massive ‘Don’t Be Afraid’ with Ron Carroll & Dan Castro played a staggering 3 weeks in a row by Pete Tong on his Radio 1 show and official remixes of Avicii’s anthem ‘Fade Into Darkness’, US superstar Jason Derulo as well as their remix for breakthrough artists of the year Azari & III all receiving widespread acclaim there is no doubt that they ended the year on a high. 2012 is already looking jam-packed for the London based producers with gigs lined up in Australia, Brazil, Spain, Portugal and the US. March will see the release of Cr2’s ‘Live & Direct’ Miami album where MYNC & Dutch superstar Nicky Romero will go ‘Back 2 Back’ mixing a disc each and playing together on variety of dates across the globe, including the Cr2 party in Miami, always a hotly anticipated event! The weekly Cr2 Live & Direct Radio Show which Mark Brown presents continues to be a huge success around the world broadcasting on national FM in over 30 countries with over 8 million listeners, a figure which is growing all the time. Listeners to the show can expect 2 hours of the best in new and underground house music and exclusive plays of new MYNC & Cr2 material plus features and guest mixes from artists such as Avicii, Laidback Luke, Thomas Gold and many more. A very large year looms…

We know that the WMC is more about profile and the party rather than business deals, is it the most important date on the dance calendar still?

“I think so. In terms of getting real business done ADE is much more productive but Miami is still the biggest event in terms of parties and showcasing tracks. It appears to be getting bigger and bigger every year events wise, you’ve got people like the Swedes putting on their own large scale events now and Ultra obviously. It’s always great to catch up with fellow people in the industry, it’s one of the few times of the year where you know everyone will be there.”

As thousands of next generation clubbers descend on the big events, do you feel the spirit of house music is being lost to a crowd looking for that instant anthem hit?

“I don’t think so,people who are just discovering the music inject a new enthusiasm into it. It’s great that the younger generation are discovering house music and the spirit of house is all about having a great time and loving the music, so while that’s going on I don’t think we will have any problems. Saying that, I think tracks probably have a shorter shelf life now than they used to. There is much more exposure to new tracks online via blogs, YouTube etc and it seems like people move on to the next big tune or new act quite quickly.”

Have you had to change your musical direction in the last year?

Last year we were producing a mixture of tech house and big room tracks, such as our collabs with Wally Lopez and our single with Ron Carroll and Dan Castro ‘Don’t Be Afraid’. But this year we are focusing more on our own big room singles rather than collab tracks and choosing our remixes carefully. We’re really proud of the remixes we’ve been putting out for the likes of Avicii & Azari & III and we also have a big Nervo remix forthcoming which we are very happy with.”

Is Miami losing it’s trademark cool and sexy house music vibe?

“Miami is still cool, no doubt about it!”

With clubs and charts being dominated by dance music worldwide, shouldn’t we be rejoicing it’s success rather than being bitter with crossover?

“The explosion of dance music can only be a good thing for our scene, electronic music has never been as big as it is now and it’s a very exciting time to be involved in the industry. Who would have ever thought a dance act would walk away with 3 Grammies like Skrillex recently did? I know a lot of people are concerned that house music is no longer ‘our little secret’ and is becoming more commercial but I’m not one of them. It’s definitely a positive.”

The party you’re looking forward to the most?

“We have a lot of our own events this year so I’m not sure how much time I’ll have to check out other parties. If I have time I’ll definitely check out Pete Tong’s pool party, always a great event. I’m really excited about the joint party my label (Cr2) will be having with Calvin Harris’ Fly Eye label at Mansion on Thursday 22nd. It’s a great venue and I’ll be playing alongside Calvin Harris, Nicky Romero and Michael Woods so should be a great night!! J Also really looking forward to playing with Chuckie and Norman Doray at our own Cr2 party at The Perry (formerly the Gansevoort) on Friday night (23rd) and our Ibiza To Brasil party at The Mondrian on Saturday with Mario Fischetti. We’re jam packed with events this year and I can’t wait!”

What are your Buzz tracks for WMC 2012?

Avesta- Arena [Musical Freedom]

Nicky Romero – Se7en [Cr2]

Mario Fischetti – Faith [Cr2]

MYNC – Stadium [Cr2]

Have you noticed a big dip in industry folk not attending these last couple of years?

“It is more about profile and parties than business as I mentioned, but I don’t think this has dented the numbers that are attending. If anything the numbers are growing as people know it’s a good time to catch up with fellow industry professionals socially and maybe try to get a bit of business done while you’re there!”

What are your thoughts on the IMS in Ibiza? Will you be attending?

“I think IMS is an excellent event, a very good friend of mine Ben Turner is one of the co founders of the event alongside Pete Tong. If I have time in my touring schedule, I will definitely be attending.”
