Pigmeat Markam ‘Here Comes The Judge’
When I was just old enough to use the record player this little 7″ was at the top of the pile and I played it relentlessly. Fantastic drum sound and merciless tape splicing.

Dust, Static + Plastic ‘Her Dad Doesn’t’
Hip hop has had a huge influence on me so some had to feature. I chose this as the production is so simple that it has a timeless quality, also a hypnotic little bass line that never fails to make heads nod.

Amon Tobin ‘Four-ton Mantis’
This guy made me want to give up making music, how could I ever compare to this genius? This track typifies him, colossal and cinematic yet hooky and playable.

Missy Elliot ‘Gossip Folks’
She has to be one of the most talented and innovative producer/artists of our age. I love her squawking vocals on this track, video was pretty cool too.

Natasha ‘Iko Iko’
She might have been a bit of a ropey old stripper but production wise I feel this track still stands up, plus I was always a sucker for that early eighties fretless bass sound – if you don’t sample this I will.

Chris Montez ‘Sunny’
I discovered this track in a Herb Alpert box set and I love the way it gently builds, another reason to play it though is for the quality of the recording – from a golden analogue era when sound engineers looked more like lab technicians than pop stars.

Helen Reddy ‘Angie Baby’
One for the ladies this (including my own feminine side). I didn’t appreciate how beautiful and effortless Helen Reddy’s vocals were until I tried to recreate the sample, also another flawless recording.

The Eels ‘Novocain’
I’ve never met anyone who didn’t like this track, it just seems to press all the right buttons.

Joy Zipper ‘Check Out My New Jesus’
I really love the feel of this track with its gentle and understated vocals and production, really nice song too with chord changes that have that immediate hook.

Beatles ‘I Am The Walrus’
I love the energy of this track, also the tone and effect on Lennon’s vocals. I liked it even more when I discovered the bizarre lyrics are a piss take of Dylan.

Duran Duran ‘We Need You’
In 1991 I burned my entire record collection, this little B-side is one of the few I miss.

Lee Curtis Connection ‘Sonic Waves’
Personifies a very interesting time in music for me this, with Ninja Tunes and Dope on Plastic putting out compilations that inspired me to get serious about my own stuff.

Funki Porcini ‘Something Wonderful’
You could play almost anything from Funki Porcini’s Headphone sex at this time of the evening, unless you want people to leave.

Dollar ‘Star Patrol’
This I call my lady boy track – everyone’s into it until they find out what it really is, then they make their excuses and leave which makes it a good one to end on, wonderfully cheesy vocoder and synth.

Ghost Track Neil Young – ‘After The Gold Rush’
Beautiful a capella. If there’s anyone still left at mine after the last track then they’re too drunk to stand, I put this on, sit down next to them and we both gently weep.
