CamelPhat – Spiritual Milk [When Stars Align]

Their 2020 marathon debut album ‘Dark Matter’ was always going to take some beating, an album that pretty much seduced the world over with its 21 ‘All Killer, No Filler’ arsenal and spawning multiple and time-less hit singles. An impossible task maybe? David and Mike are back with yet another well-honed and inspiring collection of 16 tracks. Following suit there are exciting collabs with previous family members, Rhodes, Ali Love and Jake Bugg, whilst heavy invites appear to have been accepted from London Grammar and Kolsch. Highlights have to be ‘Higher’, an immediate Camel hit straight out the box, and by far the most radio friendly track from Spiritual Milk, ‘The Sign’ alongside Anyma for it’s warm hypnotic Bodzin-esque techno vibe, Instrumental chill delight ‘Bloom’ (So good) and epic vocal biggies ‘In Your Eyes’ and ‘Many Times’ (feat Mathame and Frynn) – hooks to last a lifetime. I can see this equally-large collection of tracks becoming as well-loved as Dark Matter in time, an incredible follow up from the British duo. Maybe wildcard closing track “Love Is Something’ with Jake Bugg could also indicate a new direction in future, who knows? Top work fellas!
