Sailor & I is the intriguing moniker for Swede Alexander Sjödin…and if there’s one thing the Swedes do well in pop music, it’s write a memorable song. The fact that Sjödin is such a versatile writer bodes well for his album credentials, and this debut album shows him off as a vocalist and producer of real talent. The confident, ballsy opening pair of Black Swan and Chameleon set the stall out, but the darker tones of Next To You and Free Your Mind From Me show a more reflective side. The beats are largely house-based but also tap into the sort of pop music Empire of the Sun would kill for. Sailor & I is that rare thing, a dance music artist who can cover all bases without compromising on quality. By rights he should be massive.
