10 Years Of SecretSundaze Mixed By James Priestley & Giles Smith
SecretSundaze

Secretsundaze is something of an institution, and in ten years has gained a reputation as a free thinking club that caters for good vibes, pure and simple. Though it majors towards the low slung house and techno side of things, there is plenty of room for musical flexibility – and that’s what comes through in spades on both these mixes. James Priestley judges the pace of his mix to perfection, setting the scene with some atmospheric slower numbers before starting to build. By the time the set reaches its peak he’s pulling the big party numbers out of the bag from X-District, Locussolus and Metope, ending with a real coup in the form of the Voyage classic ‘I Love You Dancer’. Giles Smith, on the other hand, starts out on a quicker note, throwing in the venerable ‘Mushrooms’ from Marshall Jefferson before adding real depth with Anthony Shakir’s ‘Travellers’ and the Two Armadillos’ unreleased ‘Ronin’, moving us towards a Detroit-flavoured finish. Most importantly though, what this pair of mixes does best is capture all that’s good about Secretsundaze – the good vibes, the relaxed atmosphere, the live-for-the-moment philosophy. The perfect birthday cake!
