Various Artists – Vega On King Street – A 20 Year Celebration – King Street Sounds

One of New York’s very finest house labels, King Street Sounds becomes the latest to notch up a complete two decades in house music. While the ‘Mix The Vibe’ series in many ways represents their achievements to date, this new celebration from Lou Vega contains everything about the label that’s good. Vega’s mix on the first disc is a complete success, with highlights including the sultry Roots Main Mix of Jon Cutler and DJ Romain’s ‘De Ja Vu’, Mood II Swing’s ‘Inhale’ and productions by Dennis Ferrer, Ananda Project and K-Scope. Blaze’s ‘Seasons Of Love’ is the highlight at the peak of the mix, Vega successfully giving a soulful edge to his house throughout. Meanwhile three of his own tracks, simply titled ‘Vega 1′, 2 and 3, link things up nicely too. CD2 rounds up Vega’s best productions for King Street, and it’s good to have the likes of ‘Cassio’s Theme’ and ‘Lovery’ rubbing shoulders, together with some excellent remixes of Stephanie Cooke and Groove Box, among several others. An essential document for a house music fan to own, this, showing just why King Street have been so popular, as they know just how to get a party started!
