The difference between Miguel Migs and Atjazz mixes could not be more apparent, but then I guess that’s the general idea – diversity. Which, is clearly what the Weekender prides itself on as this tenth edition of the series signals the start of summer. Miguel opens with the excellent dub mix of Kyodai’s ‘Can You Hear The Beat’ and then drives the whole things forward in that vein until reaching the big time stabs and accessible vocals of Husky ‘So Crazy’ before playing imaginatively between the two styles on the remainder of his mix. It’s certainly an accessible, breezy blend that you could easily label as, party! featuring cuts from Waze & Odyssy, and Tortured Soul. On the other hand Atjazz is an altogether different proposition as soulfully challenging rhythms and moods go much deeper with music coming from Ron Basejam’s superb remix of Hot Toddy’s ‘Mutha Sucka’, Elise’s gorgeous ‘Poseidon’ and the hypnotic pulses Honest ‘Flight Of The Dragon’ in amongst many significant others. Unquestionably a thoroughly rewarding mix Atjazz gets it just right too.
