SVEN VATH
THE SOUND OF THE FIFTH SEASON
COCOON

Who can deny that Sven Vath has risen to the top of the DJ tree while never selling out his principles of rampant dancefloor fun and constant progression? After setting the trouser template from his Frankfurt base in the early 90s, he has travelled the globe spreading party mayhem and, although absorbing new developments like electro-punk and hard techno, never fails to raise the roof via his own infectious personality and formidable spinning talent. This is obvious from the fantastic accompanying DVD, which charts the astonishing rise of his Cocoon nights in Ibiza [giving in the process a fascinating look at the man at work and play]. The CD sees Sven rope together faves from the Fifth Season – a daunting task as his sets are renowned for often exceeding the eight hour mark. Included – and perfectly capturing an atmosphere of unabandoned hedonism – are tracks by Freeform Five, Client, Black Strobe, Goldfrapp and Tiefschwarz. Grainy, sleazy electro-humpers mainly, with Timbuktu’s ‘Pan African Electro Dub’ being the only concession to a past in hypno-pants. Just makes you want to go there (Surely the point?). A master at work.
