Trentemøller – Lost (In My Room)

Andreas Trentemøller just gets bigger and bigger – not just as an artist but in the way he approaches his music, as though each album is now an expansive score to a big-budget movie. You can almost see the credits running as ‘The Dream’ begins, a collaboration with Low. It’s ambitious stuff and very atmospheric, but a bit sickly-sweet in the harmonies. The other guest vocal tracks, which include appearances by The Drums’ Jonny Pierce and Sune Rose Wagner of The Raveonettes, are along similar lines – very effective but seemingly with an eye on the audience.

‘Gravity’ is more like it, still expansive but with a greater urgency, and the instrumental tracks also leave a mark, with ‘Trails’ setting a smoky atmosphere and ‘Still On Fire’ a broody breakbeat number. There are some very fine things here, and Trentemøller is clearly a producer of talent, but maybe he needs to let himself loose on a film before coming back to artist duties.
