If Hasbro were ever to make a talking Paulette doll with a string pull, you would hear it say ‘Black Butter Records rocks’ on an infinite loop and in a creepy girly tone. I am proud of this and Gorgon City are one more reason why. The Original version is bright, sunny, oozing with soul from the first to the last note and perfect for day time radio play. My favourite remixes though are Close’s darker, twitchy, delayed and stuttering outings and Etherwood’s majestic, shimmering drum and bass speaker-cone blower. MNEK cradles the song in a low-slung, between the sheets, reversed rolling arrangement that steals the thunder of the rest for the best mix of the package. If you’re ready for love as pure as Gorgon City’s then you’ll find that it is as essential to your life as breathing.
