After the success of Roxiller’s peak-time guitar mayhem earlier this year, pukka DJ and producer, Chris Carter is back with a deeper 12” on his own imprint. On side A, the simple electro-break drives along a fluid groove while seepy electronics slowly edge up the atmosphere until it prickles with anticipation. “Smoke a pound a day” says the voice-over, and then an air-pressure-shifting extended bass-line kicks in for the last third. Brooding. But it’s the flip side that will make you moist. Bleeps, tight percussion and a classic funky drummer groove consummate their affair with one of the most arresting basses ever heard. Fx and abstract sounds slide around the sound-scape to great effect before the bass-line is back with a vengeance. Quality.
