Crystal Distortion’s Simon started LaBrat Audiochemicals to air different sides to the fearsome techno assaults of his frighteningly prolific outpourings on France’s Expressillon. That said, his opening salvo as Gearshifter – ‘Piece Of Human Junk’ – is chomping, charging techno riddled with the reckless sonic acrobatics which distinguish everything he pours out. But the other three tracks he’s roped in are based on breaks with a dhardcore and harder techno undertow. Candy’s ‘Dance Dance’ is splattered with grungy stabs and snippets of rapping. Berlin-based Mark Hawkins recalls fellow Djax producer Like A Tim with his quirky roller-coaster ‘Platform Game’, while Wonkygrooves’ Skew lets fly with the convoluted rattling of
‘Orangeade Barney’. Aural mischief all round and never a dull monent.
