Compost’s flagship series returns after a two year break, once again compiled by Michael Reinboth. While jazz is the common denominator here it’s in a loose sense, with plenty of other forms including funk, dub and electro imposing a grip on the music. Rather than sound like a mish-mash this rewards repeated listens – the seemingly random bassline of Metaboman’s ‘Role For Kale’ becomes an effective underpin, whilst the cinematic ‘Le Ritournelle’ of Sebastian Tellier provides a tear jerker to end with. An excellent selection of stimulating tracks.
