Various Artists – 12″ / 80s – New Wave (Universal Music Catalogue)

If you’re an ‘80s child, then the releases in the 12” just keep on giving – and even if you’re not, then it’s a valuable history lesson for DJs that does well to dip beneath the surface from time to time. ‘New Wave’ implies a slightly edgier and even more electronic side to the series, and that’s what we get from established classics like Thomas Dolby’s ‘She Blinded Me With Science’, New Order’s ‘Temptation’ and Echo & The Bunnymen’s ‘Silver’ – all in 12” form of course. Complementing these are some good, solid choices like A Flock Of Seagulls’ ‘I Ran’, Blancmange’s ‘Blind Vision’ and an inspired choice from the left of the field, The Blue Nile’s ‘Stay’ in remix form. Another one to add to the collection with no questions asked!
