It’s been a busy year for Riva Starr and yet his punishing dj schedule has clearly not slowed down the output of his label Snatch ! And now it’s that time of year when labels can proudly step back and congratulate themselves on such achievements Riva Starr hands this golden baton over to label mate Santos to curate and mix a compilation of 18 of Snatch’s classic underground and tearing tech house jams for us all to enjoy. The mix itself is a balanced blend of dark and light, horny hipswaying basslines, jacked up, banging beats and just the right amount of sexy synthesized sleaze to make sweat run down your back or down the walls.
And what about the music ? Like I said, you get 18 tracks – some exclusives and special edits included – that travel the ground from Riva Starr ft Horace Andy’s skanking ‘Dublife’ to ‘Forget About Me’, Kaiserdisco’s wonky and wobbly jack attack, on into the dark techno psychotherapy of Bimas’ ‘No Rulez’, the moody, cut up blues of Riva Starr’s ‘In My Soul’ and the funky rolling groove of Paride Saraceni’s ‘Dissolute’ without missing a beat.
It’s a substantial aural feast that sprays your house and headspace with an electrostatically charged coat of phone to speaker interference and distortion. Or it’s the hive of bees that buzz in your head after a great night out, it’s maybe even the voices that whisper in your ear when you wonder whether it would be rude not to partake or not. Answer – it’s never rude to partake – not when the entertainment is this high quality. Snatch ! – it’s a steal and It’s what late night to afterhours partying is all about.
