Joris Voorn’s new mix for Fabric is like a piece of musical patchwork, with 60 tracks sewn together in the course of his set, and the elements from as many as seven recordings coinciding on one single track. The multi-layered approach is a very effective one though, and gives the impression of a 3D listening experience. From the start things get very floaty, but Voorn is not afraid of bringing in some more acidic material, as the four-way combination of Monobox’s ‘Realm’, Tadeo’s ‘Deep Space’, Robert Hood’s ‘A.M. Track’ and Reggy van Oers’ ‘Mavie’ proves. The mostly instrumental mix has softer elements of trance but is pretty nippy and keeps moving forward, with the momentum gained in the early stages staying the course. Previously for Voorn the multi-layered approach has worked well – his Balance mixes especially – and this is more of the same.
