Dennis Cruz

Interview by Nilly Alan

Dennis – a huge welcome back to DMCWORLD. Hows tricks?

I’m really good!!! It’s been a really amazing summer, so many beautiful parties around the world, I would say I’m definitely a summer person. I love the sunshine…

How much of an effect on your music does being based in London have? Do you feel closely linked to any scene?

I wouldn’t say my music is linked to any scene to be honest, I have influences from all over the world.

You’ve been playing as a resident with the Solid Grooves boys this summer at VistaClub Privilege. How did that come about?

Yes I’m a Solid Grooves resident at Vista club, Privilege in Ibiza. Everything started because of my EP on the Solid Grooves label, then I met Pawsa & Michel Bibi and we started a friendship, so things just went from there.

What sort of stuff have you been spinning?

Depending on the time of my set I’ll play more groovy music or soft, it also depends on the vibe of the crowd, I make sure to never make the same set.

What track would you play to get everyone on the dancefloor and why?

I´m playing my latest remix for Ramon Tapia a lot at the moment, that will be out in September on Moan Recordings, when I play it all the people get crazy, it’s a very groovy track with a long drop.

What track would you play at the end of the night and why?

I always like to play tracks with a really special vibe and vocals, I love this new one: Letters – Lower_Case – (NTFO Remix)

Who would you love to warm up for, and why?

I would love to warm up one day for Jamie Jones at Paradise DC10, I love this club and its sound

How many of your own cuts do you play? Are they made to fit in with your style, or do your DJing and producing have different aims?

Yes I play a lot of my tracks, I try to always make music that i can play on my sets and that fit my style.

Can you remember seeing any really good warm up sets that changed your life or perspective? Can you share those memories?

I remember a set from Oscar Mulero around 12 years ago, this one influenced me a lot, now my music is softer than his, but i think my groove is really inspired by his sound.

What else will you do this summer, what else are you working on?

Solid Grooves have extended their season by 3 more dates so we will now be playing up until the 22nd September which is great news! Also I’m looking to play for the first time in Canada and Egypt and I´m working on my new EP which will be out on Snatch!
