Interview by Rob Chadwick

Simion, a big welcome to DMCWORLD. Please kick off by giving us some background – how did you get into music?
Hey DMCWORLD, good to be here. I was growing up in Germany and it was all about House and Techno music. First time I was getting in touch with electronic music, my brother gave me a tape from Sven Väth or was it Carl Cox. Don´t remember! But I loved it!
What is your style and sound, what inspires and influences it, what are you all about?
I would describe my style as funky tech house with some soul influences.
Tell us about your Hedonism label – why start it, what’s the aim, what are the best and worst things of running a label?
I founded Hedonism Music 3 years ago to have a platform for my own music. I was tired of sending out demos to other labels and never getting any answers. Best thing is you can do what you want and the worst thing is you can´t always do what you want if a single you love is not selling at all and you have a massive loss.

Will you develop artists, do albums maybe or is it more about club singles?

Actually it is all about the groove and club at the moment, but for the future it is definitely an option.

And what is your relationship with Suara like – how long you been linked there?

Coyu liked my releases back in the days I did for OFF and asked me if I can send him some unreleased stuff as well. So I had some great releases on Suara.

What’s it like releasing with them?

It is always great for me releasing on a such well known and respected label like Suara, Off, Mother etc.

Tell us about your new EP for Mother – what inspired it, where was it written, who is it for?

It is an EP with two different approaches. ‘Deep Inside My Soul’ is more of a soulful songwriter tune we did with a singer called Ray. On the other hand ‘Can You Feel It’ is a banging clubtune with some sample vocal loops of Berlin based singer Pat.

What gear did you use on it? Hardware or software? Are the tools important?

Logic X. Software, of course secret tools except Ozone.

Where do you start on a track?

It is all starting with a bass drum and the rest just follows…

Do you have ideas in your head or do you just experiment in the studio or what?

Actually in the case of Deep Inside My Soul it was a classic songwriting and production session. We wrote and developed the track together.
Can You Feel It? was a different approach. First we produced the backing and afterwards I was looking for some vocals for it.

What is next for you, what else have you got coming up?

First of all the Mother release namely ‘Can You Feel It’ EP which I am really excited about. Later on this year I have releases on Hedonism Music, Simma Black and Snatch.

What is your ideal Sunday – a big afterparty or a friends and family gathering at home?

Definitely at home, I like my home comforts…
Simion’s ‘Can You Feel It’ is out now on Mother Recordings
