We’re told that Vienna DJ and producer Stefan Obermaier is currently working on a new album, but in the meantime he has also had the inclination to put together this new EP. It comes on his own label Drift and features three sumptuously deep house cuts informed by “the countless inspirations and sounds of beach life in magnificent Thailand.”
Opener Indigo is a deep and cuddly number with soft pads and gentle percussive patterns tumbling over a nice groove. Cute piano stabs lend it a musical as well as physical feel. Circles then offers a more playful take on deep house with a kinked groove and cosmic rain falling down the face of it. It’s a nice spine tingling effort with a real knack for melody. Chao Phao rounds out the Ep with another step up in tempo: deep and warm, it has driving rubbery kicks and neon chords, wispy pads and oodles of reverb all making for a rich offering. This, then, is a fine EP full of the sort of heart warming sounds we expect from this modern master.
