If Soma haven’t had an amazing enough year already, Stuart and Orde now pop up on Resist with a double mix CD which has to be one of the year’s truly mesmerising listening experiences. When they open the hatch with the deep space ambience of Carl Craig’s ‘Darkness’ to head into the ethereal reverberation of Luciano’s ‘Octogonal’, it’s obvious that this is going to be one hell of a ride. The style on CD1 is minimal and glitchy but, as with everything they do, splattered with passion. Assorted mixes and acapellas of recent Slam tracks creep into the seamless journey before they reach a climax with the epic hypnotic mind-fuck of Black Strobe’s ‘Nazi Trance Fuck Off’. CD2 spaces out further, bringing in the glacial electro of Vector Lovers and even Model 500. I’ve lost count of the number of times Slam have revved the old engine either on record, with their label, live shows or DJ sets. Nightdrive is car jamming taken to the outer limits without a seatbelt by techno’s last gang in town.
