The latest person to head up Distinctive Breaks strong Y4K series will be well known to most, having carved out a reputation for himself as Florida’s resident king of the breaks since the early 90’s, and being one of the first US promoters to recognise the potential of The Chemical Brothers. True to form, DJ Icey’s mix pulls in all sorts of different influences, taking on board acidic club bombs (Ils “Loving You” or Artcrime’s “Like This”), funky beats (Drumattic Twins absolutely monstrous “Feelin’ Kinda Strange” & Move Ya! & Steve Laver’s “The Ride”), vocal stompers (General Midi’s “Never Gonna Stop The Show”) alongside a few of his own productions. Of the three DJ Icey tracks offered, “Come Closer” stands tallest. Impeccably mixed, as you’d expect, this is a winner for the breaks massive.
