There’s something going on in the Australian club underground, as evidenced on this ‘roo’s stiffy of a sampler for the excellent Future Classic Attractions mix CD welded together by Nathan Fake. One thing noticeable about the music is that it eschews the more direct line to the heart of the dancefloor. Look at the diversity here. Eddit plumb a deep, broken float-house mutant on ‘Preshus Nerves’, which features spoken vocals from Jon Lou. Meem’s ‘Rumpski’ marries Nu Groove-style jazz-house with hiphouse declarations. Deepchild and Gauche plant the cool female vocal over breathy late night breaks. Finally, Touch Sensitive’s ‘Body Stop’ hits a low-slung nu-boogie vamp. I can vouch that these gems are but the iceberg’s bell-end.
