GLOBAL UNDERGROUND

lobal Underground’s devotion to presenting the real clubland buzz via superlative mix CDs, giving it a high world profile in the process, is rightly celebrated by this tenth anniversary triple CD set. Not so much a nostalgia exercise – although warm memories of sweat-soaked whoopee are here in droves – but a pure celebration of some amazing music that’s loomed during the course of their multi-faceted operations. The hair-raising charge of Underworld’s ‘Two Months Off’ kicks off CD1, setting a euphoric benchmark which courses through no-holds-barred classics by the likes of Garnier, Fatboy Slim and Jark Prongo. CD2 shows influences widening to include the sex-electro of Miss Kittin and immortal landmarks like Tenaglia’s ‘Turn Me On’. The third disc delves back to that classic period in the early 90s when house mated with  techno and spawned the original strain of progressive house. Just the track listing speaks for itself,  including Slam’s ‘Eterna’, Coco Steel & Lovebomb’s ‘Feel It’ and a fitting memorial to the late Caspar Pound with ‘Fever Called Love’. One of the most worthwhile and pleasurable collections to emerge this year. Happy birthday.
