AZULI

Having launched its Black label a good few years ago (on the side of the Silver imprint which looked after the more soulful side of things), it’s clear Azuli and its head-honcho Dave Piccioni have long perceived house’s shift towards a more electronic, edgier sound and not just jumped on the bandwagon. Now whether you buy into the whole Ibeefa thing or not, this double CD offers you a pretty accurate selection of what’s being played in the house clubs right now, whereas so many compilations are essentially preoccupied by looking after their labels partners. There’s the expected fix of soulful vocal tunes (Tom Novy, Axwell, Sebastien Leger, Freeform Five) as well as plenty of those deep electronic numbers that have invaded DJs’ playlists (Mason, Booka Shade, Trentemoller, John Dahlabäck, Pete Heller). Not forgetting a handful of Azuli releases of course (‘La Luna’, ‘Electrosexual’, ‘Closer To Me’), but given the London label’s track record and dedication, that’s only fair.
