There may be as many Hed Kendi compilations as I have hot dinners but it can’t be argued that they continue to offer a classy take on production, from the exotic cover art to the repertoire, a bit clinically mixed here as they attempt to get 50 tracks onto 3 CDs. Being classics, they include at least five number ones – Roger Sanchez, Stardust etc – but make room for some welcome fringe material – Masters At Work’s ‘Backfired’ in slinky Joey Negro guise, Hardsoul, Jason Hates Jazz and Spektrum being just a few. Mix these with the obvious Tom Novy, Bob Sinclar and Soul Central tunes and you have a decent collection of house anthems.
