Great choice by Azuli, this, for what is the fifteenth in a series that now stretches back six years. As you might suspect Nouvelle Vague’s selection is exotic, silky late night material, so that after a perky start from The Special AKA it’s time to luxuriate in their strangely Mediterranean cover of ‘Come On Eileen’, about as far removed from a student dancefloor as you could get. A pleasing blend of Nouvelle Vague’s likes and influences, the track selection brings in Anja Garbarek, Peggy Lee and Charlie Rich, with subtle scoring from Avril and eerie xylophones from Gavin Bryars. An intriguing mix, full of potential new discoveries.
