Taking his name from former Ultravox spaceship pinup John Foxx’s debut album, Lee Norris lovingly tugged the same bulging electronic udders which squirted forth the Detroit-deep homagings of outfits like Black Dog and B12 since the early 90s. A pristine polar opposite of the sweaty bulldog’s bell end. Not dance music, more spacey, synthesised soundscapes over alien pulses, occasionally nodding to 80s electro-pop. Over the years Norris has eschewed self-promotion with a string of albums and singles under the Metamatics and Norken names. The more accessible highlights are gathered here for a cerebral head massage. His new single is a jolly romp through Depeche Mode’s ‘Personal Jesus’ but the other, spaced ambient side is well represented by offerings like the pastoral ‘Southern Soul’ under the Norken moniker.
