Marcus Intalex puts a different slant on the drum and bass style. Not for him the up and at ’em style of some of his peers, and nor does he go the other way with music so laid back it’s horizontal. This is somewhere inbetween, but far from ordinary – deep and ambient but at the same time with crisp beats pushing things forward. The scattered piano riffs of Jonny L’s ‘Come Here’ stand out, as do the jazzy leanings of Amaning vs Dubwise and Soulmatic, with Calibre’s two tracks treading a tightrope between d ‘n’ b and dub. Meanwhile Duo Infernale’s ‘Feeling Blue’ is a convincing and emotive piano-led track to cue up the closing section. Inventive – and always involving.
