Described as a ‘spiritual quest for higher sound’, this is King Britt compiling in his element. The exotic ‘Kawaida’ from Herbie Hancock sets the scene, with the fluttering saxophone lines of the Michael Urbaniak Group and the cosmic funk of Mtume contrasting nicely with the easily swaying beat of Dane Belany’s ‘Conviction’. King Britt works best without any constraints, meaning though the ‘Cosmic Lounge’ was bound to be indulgent, there aren’t too many items of musical confectionary at once.
